The capture supports a targeted request, not a promise that every photograph will be disclosed. Ask the office to distinguish a booking-system image from an investigative-file copy when that distinction matters.
- Identify the person and episode with full name, booking number, arrest date range, and court file number when known.
- Request the existing booking photograph tied to that episode. Ask separately for the release or transfer entry if release must also be proved.
- Prefer an electronic copy and ask for a fee estimate before the office processes any charge.

A useful request does not demand a new gallery or compilation. It names an existing item. State Photos After Edgecombe Release
NCDAC individual offender records may contain a photograph. That image relates to adult state correction. It may persist after a prison release, and it is not necessarily the photograph taken during the Edgecombe County jail booking. Search by offender number when possible, then compare identity, county of conviction, sentences, and release or supervision events. The N.C. Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry may display a photo for a person legally required to register. It is not a general released-inmate index. Local and regional reporting can preserve a dated agency-supplied photograph after the original post is hard to find. That channel is selective. Newsrooms choose which incidents to cover, and an article can describe custody only as it stood at publication. Edgecombe Release Photos and Expunction
North Carolina has no verified enacted statewide mugshot-specific anti-pay-to-remove law in the research sweep. Bills with similar names are not current law merely because they were proposed. Do not promise a takedown right, and do not encourage payment to an unofficial publisher. Chapter 132 and the criminal-investigation exception must be applied to the particular copy and custodian.
An expunction can remove qualifying official records from ordinary public access, but eligibility and waiting periods depend on the controlling statute and full completion of the sentence. G.S. 15A-152 can impose deletion duties on certain compensated criminal-history information compilers after official notice. It is not a universal eraser for every image or publisher. If the Sheriff record appears inconsistent with an expunction order, provide the order and ask for the agency's correction or access process.
